A non-profit steward

Free, private tools — held in trust.

We look after a small set of quiet, useful tools so they stay free, stay private, and stay yours.

What we steward

The journals

Two small reflection tools. No accounts, no servers, no tracking — every entry stays on your own device. Open one in a browser, or download it to keep.

For students · under 16

Day's End

A gentle end-of-day check-in on how school felt — moods, a few questions, and room to say what was good or hard. With a grown-up overview and a family record for each child.

For 16+ & parents/carers

Throughline

A private record over time — student reflections, or a dated, tagged log you can keep and export. Optional sync to your own Google Sheet. Several children can roll up into one view.

What we hold to

Principles

🔒

Private by design

Your words live on your device. We never receive, store, or see them — there's nothing to leak because we hold nothing.

🎁

Free, and non-commercial

These tools are a public resource, not a product. Free for people, families, schools, and charities — never turned into someone's sales funnel.

🌱

Open & forkable

The code is open to read, run, and build on. Self-host it, adapt it, keep it alive — it isn't locked to us.

🤍

Made with care

Built thoughtfully for young people: gentle wording, a way to reach help, and clear lines about responsibility.

How it's held

The Commons

R8rly.org holds these works in trust so they can't be quietly enclosed or sold off. The licence governs how they're used; ownership stays with the steward.

  • Code — PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Free for any non-commercial use.
  • Documentation & content — Creative Commons (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
  • Rights held by R8rly.org as steward. "R8rly" is the project/brand.
  • Commercial use is not granted by default — it's available by request, so the free public version always remains.
  • Your data is your responsibility if you host or deploy these to collect others' information — you become the data controller.
